The objective of modelling and simulations is to develop a level of understanding interactions of parts of a system and the system as a whole as well.

System: A system exists and operates in time and space.

Model: A model is a simple representation of a system at some point in time or space. The intention of a model is often to promote a real system.

Simulation: A digitalised manipulation of a model. A simulation is running a program of algorithms and equations as opposed to a model which uses the algorithms and equations to display the behaviour.

Types of Models
  • Physical
  • Mathematical
  • Process

Types of Simulations
  • Live
  • Constructive
  • Virtual e.g Medical response

Euro NCAP Simulations

They use simulations in order to determine if a car is safe.

Uses simulated crashes in order to determine safety.
